Samsung has expanded its array of personal media players with the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2 officially unveiled at MWC 2012.Allowing users to enjoy all the benefits of Google’s Android operating system without the ability to make calls and the cost associated with the handset components, the latest Galaxy PMP touts, as its name suggests, a 4.2-inch WVGA touchscreen display.

Described by Samsung as “the best of Android experiences with powerful gaming on the go,” the Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2 enhances its gaming abilities by landing preloaded with FIFA 12 and a bevy of premium EA titles.
Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2 Specs Landing alongside the expansive 4.2-inch 800 x 480p display, the Galaxy S Wi-Fi will touch down running Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS with a 2-megapixel rear-mounted camera featuring alongside a second, VGA, forward facing snapper.

Lining up at a minimalist 8.9mm thick, the Wi-Fi 4.2 touts the usual smartphone array of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options with 512MB of RAM and the option of up to 32GB of internal storage via microSD card.

Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2 Release Date
As with the company’s other MWC 2012 announcements that include the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Galaxy Beam projector phone Samsung has failed to offer any release date or pricing information for its latest PMP offering. Is the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2 a new powerhouse of the PMP scene or yet another iPod replicating wannabe? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Galaxy Tab 2.0 for 7-inch and 10.1-inch variations announced, specs revealed

It’s a big day tomorrow. The Mobile World Congress will be held at Barcelona, Spain. Samsung went ahead and announced the two newest tablets for their 2012 lineup – Galaxy Tab 2 in 7-inch and 10.1-inch variations.
We first heard about Galaxy Tab 2 weeks ago. The original 7-inch Galaxy Tab was rumored to get Ice Cream Sandwich along with hardware enhancements. Samsung finally made it official, announcing Galaxy Tab 2.0 Both 7-inch and 10.1-inch variations are getting boosts in specs.
According to Samsung, the two tablets will have 3G and WiFi-only versions. Bluetooth connectivity is available for both. They will be powered by 1 GHz dual-core processors and have 1GB RAM, 3MP rear cameras, VGA front cameras, micro SD storage of up to 32GB, and 21MBps of HSPA+. Of course, they’ll be slathered in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Sammy’s very own Touchwiz. Listed below are their varying specs.
Galaxy Tab 7” 2.0 Specs
Display: WSVGA PLST TFT LCD with 600 x 1024 pixels
Dimensions: 193.7 x 122.4 x 10.5 mm
Weight: 345g
Battery: 4000mAh Li-ion
Galaxy Tab 10.1” 2.0 Specs
Display: WXGA PLS TFT LCD with 1280 x 180 pixels
Dimensions: 256.6 x 175.3 x 9.7 mm
Weight: 588g
Battery: 7000mAh Li-ion
Between the two, Galaxy Tab 7” 2.0 has the most improvements compared to its first version. With its dual-core processor, faster network support, and lighter weight, it makes a perfect upgrade for its predecessor. I can’t say much for Galaxy Tab 10.1” 2.0 though. Not only is it heavier than its original version but doesn’t have much improvements other than support for an external SD card.
Prices are yet to be revealed but you can expect them to be much more affordable than iPad. If you happen to attend the event, you can catch them at the Samsung stand located in Hall 8.

Samsung unveils new Galaxy Beam smartphone / projector combo with dual core CPU

Samsung has finally started to reveal its new products at MWC 2012, starting with this refresh of the Galaxy Beam packing Android 2.3 and a 1GHz dual-core CPU. Just like its predecessor it brings an integrated projector capable of 15 lumens of brightness, enough to shoot a high definition image that's up to 50 inches wide. There's a dedicated app that activates the projection, letting users pump out video and pictures, as well as interact with games when the 4-inch WVGA screen just isn't big enough. It has a 2000 mAh battery to keep the party going -- handy when you're stuck somewhere inconvenient with a few dozen of your coworkers -- 8GB of built-in storage and a claimed 6GB of RAM (we're double checking that, consider it a likely typo until you hear otherwise). There's more details and specs in the press release after the break, but no word on release date or market availability of this HSPA phone just yet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) officially announced at MWC, 3.1 extra inches of Ice Cream Sandwich

We already saw Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) just over a week ago, and now the company has come clean with its 10.1-inch variant (along with a new Galaxy Beam smartphone). Aside from bumping up the screen resolution of its LCD to 1280 x 800, from 1024 x 600 on the 7.0, the 10.1 features the same 1Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, front and rear cameras (VGA and 3-megapixels, respectively) and 21Mbps HSPA+ connectivity if you opt for the 3G model instead of WiFi. The 10.1-incher notably comes equipped with a 7,000 mAh battery (up from 4,000 on the 7.0), which will hopefully ensure stamina that's similar to its predecessor. The slate is unsurprisingly loaded with TouchWiz-flavored Ice Cream Sandwich, and will be offered in 16 and 32GB models (expandable by up to 32GB if you supply your own microSD card). There's no word on pricing just yet, but Sammy plans to start selling all 10.1-inches of this treat during March in the UK -- and you can bet we'll get our own in-person hands-on while we're traversing the show floor here at MWC. For now, you'll find full details about the slate in the press release after the break and press images in the gallery below.

Galaxy Nexus landscape dock comes to the US

Officially branded Galaxy Nexus accessories have been a dream of ours for a while. So imagine our surprise, caution and then surprise again when the landscape dock for the ICS super-phone arrived on these shores. Cradling the device horizontally, it'll let you charge the phone via the side-mounted pogo pins, so you can continue to watch that movie when low on power. It's available right now for $90 at our source link, we'd advise not to delay, otherwise Samsung might change its mind and take our toys away.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0N starts shipping in Germany

Just like the Galaxy Tab 10.1N, the 7.0N addresses the legal "issues" surrounding Samsung's slates. The tiny tablet was unveiled last month and now it's starting to hit shelves in Germany with its lawsuit-circumventing redesign in place. It's a little later than anticipated, but our friends in Deutschland can now pick up the tweaked Tabs starting at €499 for a 16GB WiFi version, while an HSPA+ model will set TouchWiz fans back €569.

Samsung's crystal-studded Series 9 laptop to make its QVC debut tomorrow

Been waiting patiently to get your hands on Samsung's limited edition Series 9 laptop since its first showing at IFA in the fall? Then you really should have been looking into some other more sensible options in the interim. But if those non-crystal-studded alternatives didn't strike your fancy, you'll be glad to know that the laptop will finally be available in the US, exclusively on QVC, beginning tomorrow at 10PM. Unfortunately, the sure-to-be-premium price will only buy you a last-gen Series 9, with a Core i5-2467M processor and Windows 7 Home Premium for an OS.

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 leaked, says it'll arrive later this month

Whoa there, another phone leak? It could only be the run-up to Mobile World Congress. This time, it's Samsung that's let slip, and the not-particularly high-end Galaxy Mini 2. Mini in size, minor in specifications, it will purportedly arrive with a 3.3-inch display at 480 x 320 resolution, running Gingerbread on an 800MHz processor. Unfortunately, at that speed, don't expect to get any Adobe Flash action on this presumably entry-level phone. It'll be capable of HSDPA data speeds up to 7.2Mbps; add in a three-megapixel camera, 3GB of built-in storage and it's all starting to sound a bit 2008. GSM Arena's mole pegs it for a February release, so that could mean it sprints out ahead of MWC, but it'll find it hard to avoid the bright lights of Barcelona.

Nokia Remains Top Smartphone Maker; Apple Enters Top 3

While Nokia remains slightly unpopular in North America, the Finnish phonemaker remains a dominant brand according to the latest figures from International Data Corporation (IDC). The report says the the top three smartphone manufacturers in the world are Nokia, Samsung, and Apple, in that order.

This is actually Apple’s first time to creep into the coveted Top 3, which may come as a surprise to many casual techies. The company formerly led by the late Steve Jobs takes 8.7 percent of the world market, overtaking erstwhile third-placer LG. Meanwhile, Samsung and Nokia duke it out with 22.8 and 26.6 percent respectively. Nokia remains on top of the leaderboard despite falling 8.2 percent of its market share.

LG drops to fourth place with a 4.1-percent share, leading China-based company ZTE by a mere 0.1%. The Korean electronics company suffered a staggering 42.2-percent loss in the last twelve months. Analysts from IDC say the drop is caused partly by the worldwide rejection of feature phones in favor of smartphones.
The decline of demand for feature phones are mostly felt in its major markets like China, India, and Indonesia.

The consumer behavior toward smartphones, meanwhile, vary by region. Apple’s iPhone 4S was well-received in North America, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan, while mid-range Android phones (from Chinese companies such as Lenovo, Coolpad, and Huawei) are popular in Mainland China.

Samsung’s Android handsets dominate Central Europe, Middle East, Africa, and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region. Consumers in North America also demand for 4G LTE smartphones as well as BlackBerry phones running on BB OS 7, while their counterparts in Latin America begin to favor the sub-$200 Android models although low-cost features phones continue to rule the market.

Samsung loses second German 3G patent lawsuit against Apple

About a week after suffering a legal setback in Germany, Samsung received another bit of bad news this morning, when the Mannheim Regional Court rejected the second of its patent infringement claims against Apple. As with last week's ruling, today's decision addresses one of Samsung's arguments that Apple's 3G / UMTS technology infringes upon its patents. Judge Andreas Voss officially shot down these claims early this morning, though he didn't offer an immediate reason for his ruling. As FOSS Patents points out, however, these initial decisions against Samsung may be based on the validity of the specific patents themselves, and would therefore have no bearing upon the outcome of the Korean manufacturer's three other claims -- all of which are based upon different 3G / UMTS patents. In addition, the company is pursuing two lawsuits based on patents not related to 3G standards, including one, apparently, that details a way to type smiley emoticons on a mobile handset. We're still awaiting more information on today's outcome and will update this post as soon as we hear more.
